Chick hatched late and needed help, description of its status below, what can I do to help it?
We (my animal science class) began incubating the eggs on Friday, April 29. We ordered them through the mail and through candling found that most of their air cells were slightly off-kilter. 3 out of 38 hatched over the weekend and are now doing quite well. Today (Monday the 17th of May) there were two eggs with cracks, which at about 8:40 this morning we took apart. one was dead and still had a bit of yolk. the other began peeping right away. we had to help him most of the way out. it is now 12:46 in the afternoon. we have him by himself under a heat lamp with water and food. his feathers/fluff are caked together for the most part. he cannot stand up fully. his neck is very weak and he can't straighten it out very easily. above his left wing is a bubble of some kind (he can bend his neck that way), the right side does not (he cannot bend his neck that way himself). i understand that he may very well not make it, but he has been trying so hard to stand up and he has such a will to live. i want to help him. the teacher is out so i can't ask him. any suggestions you may have, preferably if you have experience with these situations, would be much appreciated. thank you very much!
